Fall Out Boy - My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark single review

They're baaaaack! Or so they say... think about it. Can you ever really trust a rumor of a Fall Out Boy reunion? Well you can when it's the band themselves saying it, so it's not a rumor. Yes, after years of speculation (basically since they went on hiatus in 2009), Fall Out Boy have reunited (although they claim they never broke up, it's still a reunion since they weren't "together"). They have announced a new album "Save Rock And Roll", along with a supporting tour, and they've released a new single. The single "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)" was released today (February 4th 2013) to promote the new album. Now my next review was going to be Dead Silence by Billy Talent, but I had to talk about this. So here is my review of Fall Out Boy's new single "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark".
The first thing I noticed was how catchy this song is. If Fall Out Boy can do anything right, it's make a catchy song. However I also noticed this was a lot more pop than I'm used to from them, but it seems to me with the pop instrumentals and having Two Chains in the music video (I refuse to stylize Two Chains), combined with the less than great lyrics, this is meant to gain publicity through radio play, to promote the album. Pop radio listeners surely won't care about listening to a less than great song, considering the shit that plays on those stations daily. Compared to Rihanna or Nikki Minaj, Fall Out Boy are legends. I like Fall Out Boy, but considering that the music video had the caption "Two Chains edition" I hope that there exists a better version for the album, and I hope that despite the obvious message of leaving the past behind, that they still know what longtime fans of the band enjoy, and don't just leave us behind with the past.
Well, that's it. I know this wasn't much of a review, but the next one will be better. Overall, I give the new FOB single a 7 out of 10. I do hope the rest of the album will be better. That's a wrap, next time I review Dead Silence by Billy Talent.
