Hey guys!
So I know it's been a while since I reviewed something, but I'm still recovering from that review of LIVE Backwards by JJ Demon. So I decided to do a holiday double feature on a band called Forever The Living Dead. Here's part 1, my review of Survival Of The Illest by Forever The Living Dead.
The first track is called Whomp Whomp! and it sounds like all their intros which sounds like Skrillex, but with other songs put in there, and honestly when that loud electronic part kicked in I was totally expecting a CALL 911 NOW!!! So yea, a pretty good way to start.
The second track is called Danger Ft. N!tro, and this is the second time I've heard N!tro rap this way, the first time being Fly Free by DDC, and what you don't suspect after this verse is an actual verse by the actual band (following Spanky's annoying as hell chorus on Fly Free), but then you hear "Yea it's green on the track so you all know what's up!" Pretty good verse by Green, and then Zero's verse is pretty good, but too much vocal effect so it doesn't even sound like him. And after the vocals end, you expect another "Fall back soldier you're always in danger" But no.
Track three is called Take The Picture, and it sounds unlike anything I've ever heard by FTLD ever! It sounds a little pop, and like something you'd hear on pop radio. Honestly, not something I'd listen to other than for the purpose of reviewing.
So, there was no track four on here for some reason, so skip directly to track five.
Track five is the first cover I've ever heard by FTLD and it's one of my favorite songs, "A Prophecy" by Asking Alexandria, and when it comes to screaming they weren't bad at all, but when it comes to singing, well, let me put it this way, I think this cover was more for the screaming, and the singing wasn't really the point of this cover, because the singing was not very good at all. I'll always prefer the Asking Alexandria version, but this wasn't a very bad version at all.
Track 6 is called Got No Time Fer My Haterz! with that annoying "Fer" you see a lot today, but the beat is amazing, and the lyrics are pretty sweet as well. The rap verses were really good, and to be honest, this song sounds like a better BOTDF.
Track 7 is a cover of a song called Down On Me by Jeremih Ft. 50 cent, And I think I probably like this version than the original cuz I hate 50 Cent. I really have nothing else to say about this song, except that they probably did more justice to this song than Jeremih and 50 cent did, because they did great.
Track 8 is called Why Do You Hate Me? Ft. Crunkasaurus and that first rap verse was amazing (the voice didn't sound like anyone from FTLD so I'll assume it's crunkasaurus), and for some reason after that verse it all of a sudden got slow, and then I think that's the chorus, then slow, then some awesome screaming, I think this song has everything, I've heard this song before, but I never realized how good it was until now. This song was faster at times than most FTLD songs too.
The ninth and final track on this is called Joker On Chronic ft. OhEmGee, and the chorus at the beginning, and OhEmGee verse was a great way to start the song and end the mixtape. Also I think Zero's first verse on this song, was his best on the whole mixtape. Also, did Green just insult Spanky of DDC for they way he screams? This mixtape ended in the perfect way.
Well, another review done, stay tuned on December first when I review the music video for FTLD's I Got Swag.
